Poison Dart Frog Profile

Blue Poison Dart Frog
Poison dart frogs, members of the Dendrobatidae family, wear some of the most brilliant and beautiful colors on Earth. Depending on individual habitats, which extend from the tropical forests of Costa Rica to Brazil, their coloring can be yellow, gold, copper, red, green, blue, or black.

  2. Hi Bob,

The poison dart frog does secrete toxins/poisons from its skin that are deadly. In captive, they do lose their toxins because they do not eat the same diet as they would in the wild. They reportedly get their toxins from the insects and beetles that they eat in the jungle.

Indians in the Amazon use the poison from the frogs to create poison darts for hunting.
